The last meeting of 2008 held at My Favorite Martin's and was called to order by President Burt Todd at 9:00 a.m. with 55 in attendance. There was one guest, Keith and Lou Nixen's son, Jeff. Minnie Ann Klone was also welcomed back. She has been battling some serious health problems and bought a house in Sun City last year. All were glad to see her. Marabeth McVay also announced that one of our former members, Jim O'Dea was also present and he was welcomed.
Treasurer's Report: The treasurer's report was given by Carol Pritchett.
October 31, 2008 Balance... $1281.06 Dues.........................$381.00 Raffle........................$33.00 November 30, 2008 Balance.. $1695.06
The figures from the Christmas Party which was held last night won't be in until the December report next month. Bud & Betsy were able to return $280 to the club because of the good turnout for the party. Anyone present who hadn't paid their 2009 dues was encouraged to do so today. It was moved and seconded that the treasurer's report be accepted. The motion carried.
Safety Report: Roy stated that there was no safety report. Burt announced that Roy Merriott will be the Ride Coordinator next year and showed the club a copy of the ride schedule he had made up. It contained all the ride leaders and starting times for the Wednesday Rides through May 20, 2009. Roy explained that what he had done was go through the roster and pick out the active riders. The "snow birds" that he might have missed will still have plenty of opportunity to lead a ride when September and October roll around. Roy mentioned that each rider is responsible for the ride that he has been assigned. If he is unable to do that ride for any reason he is to trade dates with someone else or find someone to take the ride he is unable to lead. If for some reason he is unable to get a substitute he can inform Roy as there are people who have volunteered to help in emergencies. Roy encouraged everyone to take particular notice of the starting times as they are listed for each ride. He also reminded the club that the ride schedule is also listed on the club website.
Website & Newsletter: Bruce McVay had nothing special to report.
Ride Coordinator: Bill Pritchett had nothing new to report.
Social Concerns: Curt Kovacs had no special concerns.
Roster: Keith Nixon asked everyone to check the copy of roster information that he was passing around to be sure that all the corrections had been made to their name, address, summer address, telephone numbers, and email. If not, he asked that the corrections be placed on the empty line below their name. After checking the information he wanted everyone to put a check mark beside his name. That way he would know that the information was correct.
Old Business: Burt introduced the slate of officers to be voted on for the coming year.
President Jerry Wetak Vice President John Elmgren Secretary Lou Nixon Treasurer Carol PritchettBill Pritchett moved that the slate be accepted unanimously. The motion was seconded and passed. Burt gave a special thanks to the current board for their assistance the last 2 years and the club gave a round of applause to Burt for the fine job he had done.
New Business: Burt noted how good it was to see Verne & Helen Hook at the meeting since Helen was no longer in the hospital. The club acknowledged their presence with a round of applause. Burt had a special award that was supposed to be given out at the Turkey Run but it had mistakenly been left at the home of the previous winner. The prize was for the lowest score ("the Booby Prize") and was awarded to Carol Pritchett. The prize was a talking turkey or chicken - whichever you like. Burt also showed the trophy for the First Prize winner - complete with their name engraved on it.
Other Business: Keith Nixon announced that he had space for 3 pictures on the new roster one of which is for the President. He said that anyone who had a picture of his bike - no people, just the bike - could send it to him and one of them might be used. Burt thanked Keith for all the work that he's done on the roster. Jim Hudson questioned whether or not anyone had thoughts or plans for any overnighters. Bill Pritchett mentioned an overnighter to Yuma when it warmed up a bit perhaps late March or early April and a possible trip to San Diego. Roger Yadro spoke of his ride to La Posada the first week in May.
50/50 Drawing: Greg Jones handled the 50/50 drawing. There were 3 winners of $10 each and $30 was given to the club. The winners were: Jim Henry, Monica Smith, and Tom Taylor.
As is the custom, the meeting was adjourned by the newly elected President, Jerry Wetak.
Respectfully Submitted,
Margaret Johnson
